My Experience With Plant Therapy Essential Oils + Discount Coupon

When looking for essential oils, there are countless options available online and in the store, which can make it really difficult to decide which brand to choose, and if you’re just starting out, what type of oils to begin with. After all, there are nearly 100 different essential oils, and they each offer their own unique benefits. While we might like to have them all, for most of us that’s just not feasible.

That’s where I was at when making the decisions as to which oils to start with and which company to buy them from. One thing I understood was important, is that as standards for quality control of essential oils do not currently exist in the U.S., seeking out the most reputable sources that sell high-quality essential oils, is an absolute must, particularly when you’re planning on using them to benefit your health and well-being.

So, I came up with a list of “musts,” that helped make my decision, including:

  • The company must have a strict quality control that ensures all essential oils are 100% pure, meaning there is nothing added to them, nor has anything been taken out that should be left in.
  • It must know exactly where its oils come from, from the farmer to the distiller and supplier, including what their own commitment to quality, reputation, and background is. This way it will be aware of how the plants are grown, including whether or not pesticides or other chemicals are used.
  • The oils should be extracted properly, with steam only and not chemical solvents, under low temperature and low pressure, as well as produced from plants grown in their indigenous locations.
  • The end product is analyzed at a lab to ensure purity.
  • Proper packaging handling and storage to ensure the oils are not exposed to light, heat or oxygen, which can render them useless – the oils should be stored in a dark-colored, tightly-lidded bottle.
  • The oils are a good value, meaning they are high quality, but not overpriced.

The Decision: Plant Therapy Essential Oils

After hours and hours of research, I decided on Plant Therapy, as it checked all of my “must” boxes, and had a few added bonuses too, including being a small, family-owned company rather than a mega-corporation, and it also believes in making a difference in the world by giving back.

Founded by Chris and Amanda Jones in 2002, Chris states on the company website:

“Our ultimate goal is not to be the largest essential oil company; it is to positively impact the lives of as many people as humanly possible. Ultimately, I feel this is possible only by providing our customers with an exceptional experience that keeps them coming back. By selling such a high-quality product at an affordable price, we not only positively affect the lives of our customers, it also gives us the financial means by which we can help those who are less fortunate to live a happier, healthier, and more productive life.”

I like that – and, I also liked the fact that when I picked up the phone to ask questions directly, the customer service rep was highly knowledgeable, and actually seemed to care about the overall customer experience – a rarity these days! The online ordering process was also a snap.

All oils sold by Plant Therapy are guaranteed 100% pure and are of the highest quality. They’ve undergone some of the strictest quality assurances and testing in the industry, and as the main point of quality assurance, world renowned essential oil expert Robert Tisserand, along with several analytical laboratories, are part of the Plant Therapy team. Plus, before purchasing raw materials from any farmer or supplier, such as seeds, stems, roots, flowers, bark, leaves, or other parts of a plant used to make the oils, the company ensures the supplier’s background, reputation, commitment to quality and commitment to the industry is met to or beyond its high standards. It also tests several samples from different suppliers for every oil to ensure each and every ingredient is of high quality, before even being distilled or produced.

Plant Therapy offers an extensive line of essential oils, from single oils and synergy oil blends to carrier oils, roll-on bottles along with body care, gift sets, and accessories. It even created the first ever full line of KidSafe synergies, formulated by Tisserand, so parents can know they’re using only the safest and most effective oils on the market for little ones.

Another reason I chose Plant Therapy is that they offer an affordable set of essential oils that made it easy to get started, the 7 & 7 set which includes the top 7 single oils and top 7 synergies sold by the company.

Of course, the bottom line is the results. Do the oils actually work?

Plant Therapy 7-7 Set

Here’s what the 7 & 7 set includes:

  • Lavender Essential Oil
  • Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Sweet Orange Essential Oil
  • Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Lemon Essential Oil
  • Cinnamon Essential Oil
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • Germ Fight Synergy Blend
  • Immune-Aid Synergy Blend
  • Tranquil Synergy Blend
  • Invigor Aid Synergy Blend
  • Sensual Synergy Blend
  • Relax Synergy Blend
  • Energy Synergy Blend

It can take a little time to determine whether or not an oil is going to work – it can also be a highly personal experience, meaning one person may love the smell of lavender, while another may associate it with a bad memory. For me personally, I’m not as fond of the scent as most are, but I’m not adverse to it either – and, because it offers so many benefits, I was willing to give it a try.

Testing For Purity

The first thing I did, after opening the box, was to test for purity. Based on the information I was given, I was pretty sure the oils would pass with flying colors, and they did. I tested several of the oils using the “purity test,” by placing a drop of each one onto a piece of computer printer paper. I allowed the oils to dry, and then checked for a ring – if an oil ring is left behind, it’s not a pure essential oil. Good news, no oil rings left behind! Each one also smelled just like it should.

The Effectiveness

Right off, I loved the Energy Synergy Blend. It contains blood orange, peppermint, lemon, ginger root, eucalyptus, and geranium. Not only does it smell heavenly, but I really felt more invigorated after taking a whiff. I put a few drops into my new essential oil diffuser and allowed it to fill the room with its energizing scent.

As with many people, I tend to go-go-go all day, and then have trouble sleeping at night, so I knew lavender would be my go-to oil at bedtime as it’s long been lauded in aromatherapy for its calming properties that help one fall asleep easier, however, I thought it might be a good idea to combine it with the Relax Synergy Blend, which Plant Therapy notes as being created specially to promote a peaceful, tranquil state of mind. It contains lavender, along with marjoram, mandarin, patchouli, geranium, and Roman chamomile. Just before bed, I added 2 drops of pure lavender essential oil and 2 drops of Relax Synergy Blend to my diffuser. Soon after hitting the pillow, I felt incredibly relaxed – it may partially be because I was just loving that diffuser and the scent it released, but I do think the oils themselves had a positive impact. I’ve been using this same blend for well over a month, and overall, night sleep habits have greatly improved.

I was also excited to try the tea tree essential oil as it has multiple purposes as well. A friend recommended it for breakouts, and when that inevitable zit popped up, I dabbed a drop onto it, morning and night – and in just two days it was gone! Fast forward to a picnic in the woods where I was surrounded by those dreaded sandflies, or “no-see-ums” as they’re often called, and I pulled out my trusty bottle, put a few drops on exposed areas of my skin, and voila! They stayed away. Unfortunately, before I noticed they were there, I’d been bitten a few times, but the oil also worked to stop the itch and help the bites heal faster too. The true testimony came when a friend who didn’t want to use it ended up asking me to borrow the bottle several days later after her bites had caused incessant itching and had swelled up to 3 times the size they initially were.

The peppermint oil also does just what I was told it would. In the area where I live, spring tends to bring on the ants and it seems there is nothing that will stop them. But this year, I had my Plant Therapy Peppermint Essential Oil. I was skeptical, but I added a few drops of the oil to cotton balls, and strategically placed them around the house where ants were sneaking in – within a day, no ants! I still find it hard to believe, but we’re well into summer now and they’ve yet to return.

Another important test for me came with the Germ Fighter Synergy Blend and the Immune Aid Synergy Blend. I travel a lot, which means I’m exposed to germs frequently, including on airplanes, one of the worst places in the world for germs. And, while travel can be fun, it also comes with added stress, which can weaken the immune system. It often seemed that no matter what I did, by the end of a trip or soon after I returned home, I would end up ill.

This time, about a week before leaving on my most recent trip I started adding a few drops of the Immune Aid Synergy Blend to my diffuser during the day, which contains frankincense, tea tree, rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus and sweet orange and is designed to help keep the immune system running like it should. Then, after reaching my destination, I used the Germ Fighter Blend, which was designed to offer extra protection against germs and includes lemon, clove, eucalyptus, cinnamon cassia, and rosemary. I combined a drop of this blend with a tablespoon of sweet almond oil and rubbed it onto the bottoms of my feet just before bedtime, repeating the process in the morning.

Guess what? No cold, no flu, no illness of any kind!

I’ve since used lemon essential oil by inhaling to lift me out of a funky mood, and cinnamon, simply for its scent because I absolutely love it. Let’s just say the Sensual Synergy Blend is without a doubt great at setting the scene for romance, with ylang-ylang, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, sweet orange, and lavender.

The Bottom Line

I feel at this point, though I still need to do a little more experimenting, I can state without hesitation that I made a good choice when selecting Plant Therapy to purchase my essential oils – the next step for me will be to add to my collection! I can’t wait to try some of the others.
